German as a subject was introduced in 1995 when IIS deemed to be University in its earlier form as ICG was affiliated to the University of Rajasthan. The Department of German was established finally in the year 1998. And now since 2023 the department has already started following NEP (New Education Policy). At the undergraduate level German has been proposed as elective course where it is being offered in B.A.(Pass Course) with various subject combinations and as subsidiary with B.A.(Honours) in English and Psychology. The department also offers German as Generic Elective from a pool of open electives which gets started from Second semester and continues till Fourth semester. Besides these elective courses German is also being provided as COSD course in order to facilitate parallel career opportunities for students and further brighten up their career chances in their chosen field of studies as well. Keeping in mind the demand of the present time the value added courses and some other interdisciplinary courses are continuously being conducted by the department wherein the students are enhancing their skills and getting trained well in a professional manner. This on one hand helps students develop a new skill and on the other hand also enables them to face the formidable challenges of the job market. In this regard all the courses in German have been able to achieve their objectives quite well as more and more students are getting benefited from these courses every year.
A thorough overhauling of curricula of all the courses has been done by the department in order to make them more learner centric with the inclusion of audio-visual inputs as well as exercises based on creativity and self discovery. This has also helped the faculty to take up new pedagogical strategies where teacher can work more as a motivator and instructor creating more space for students’ participation in order to optimize their potential.
With a view to keep the students abreast of various developments in language, literature and culture of Germany and German speaking countries, the department regularly organizes German Film show, German Song workshop and guest lectures.
