WEBINAR ON EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES FOR FACING VIVA VOCE IN GERMAN

IIS (DEEMED TO BE) UNIVERSITY

DEPARTMENT OF GERMAN

On 13th July 2020, the German department at the IIS (deemed to be) University organised a Webinar session for the benefit of the students. Prof. Dr. V. Ganeshan gave an online talk on the topic: “Effective Strategies for facing the Viva Voce (oral exam) in German”.  In this talk Prof. Dr. V. Ganeshan offered certain useful tips and tactics that would help the students to feel less anxious and more confident while facing an oral exam in German. He pointed out that there are two important aspects the students have to keep in mind, namely, preparation and performance. He offered useful suggestions as to how a student can prepare well for the exam and perform well in the exam. He explained how a well planned preparation and proper presentation of one’s thoughts can add to the overall performance in the exam.  He also pointed out that an oral exam is a two way process, and in this context, he also offered some valuable suggestions to teachers of German as to how they should conduct the oral exam, so that the student can feel very comfortable and perceive the exam as a chance and challenge and not a threat. He underlined the necessity for the student to have a positive approach to the oral exam. After the talk students raised certain questions and sought clarifictations. Prof. Dr. V. Ganeshan answered all the questions with lots of patience in a convincing manner. He concluded the session with the wise advice, that if one wants to achieve things in life, one should be willing to work hard, since there are no short cuts when it comes to learning for life and carving out a professional future for oneself. Ms. Prachi Goswami, Head, Department of German moderated the session and thanked Prof. Ganeshan for his valuable guidance both for students and faculty members. The interaction with Prof. Dr. V. Ganeshan was both an enriching and an enjoyable learning experience.
