Seminar Translation techniques by Prof. M.S. Joshi, Delhi University

On 25th August, 2017 a Seminar was organized by German Department of The IIS deemed to be  University. The esteemed speaker on this occasion was Dr. Madhusudan Joshi, Associate Professor  in the Department of Romance and Germanic Studies, University of Delhi.  The lecture started with a welcome address by  Ms. Prachi Goswami , Head , German Department .Dr. Joshi delivered his talk on the topic “Techniques of Translation”. In his scholarly interaction with the participants of the Seminar he not only discussed various techniques and intricacies of literary translation but also elucidated it with some lucid examples. He explained as to how it can lead to grave errors in literary translation if just the meaning of the words and not the meaning behind the words is well understood. He espoused the very idea of having more and more interaction between Indian and foreign languages and literatures so that good translations can be produced.

The Seminar was well attended by students of German Department as well as students doing M.A. in English Literature at the IIS University.  Prof. Dr. Pawan Surana, President of Indo-German Society as well as Mr. Hemant Agrawal, Associate Professor in the German Department, Manipal University were also amongst the audience . Mr. J.P.Karna, Senior Assistant Professor  gave  a vote of thanks on behalf of  the German Department.
